The following events are regularly offered by the TLTC and other campus units. These events are open to the entire campus community, unless otherwise noted and some require free registration.

TLTC Logo WorkshopsEach semester the TLTC hosts a series of workshops on issues related to teaching and learning. All University of Maryland teachers and others interested in ideas and issues related to teaching and learning are invited to attend.

TLTC Logo Special Diversity and Inclusion Workshop Series: This series was developed in collaboration with the graduate student government, the Graduate School, and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion to focus on issues around diversity and inclusion the classroom. Individuals who complete five workshops in one year with the corresponding readings and reading reflection are eligible for a letter of completion either from the Graduate School (graduate students) or the Office of Diversity & Inclusion (faculty and staff).

TLTC Logo Seminars: In this series, exciting external speakers visit our campus and give talks. Upon request, arrangements can be made to meet with featured speakers during the day of their visit.

TLTC Logo Graduate Student Teacher Orientations: The TLTC and The Graduate School host annual campus-wide Graduate Student Teacher Orientations before the start of each semester in August and January. The orientations are open for both new and returning teaching assistants and graduate student instructors.

TLTC Logo Faculty Teaching Portfolio Workshops: TLTC and Faculty Affairs offer interactive workshops on how to document and present your teaching contribution, student impact, and mentorship in your teaching portfolio (now required in the appointment, promotion, and tenure process). TLTC Logo Graduate Student Teaching Portfolio Retreats: In mid-January and mid-June, the TLTC runs three-day-retreats for graduate students to develop their teaching philosophy statement and teaching portfolio. This opportunity is available for all graduate teaching students who anticipate entering the job market within the next two years.

TLTC Logo Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference: The ITL Conference brings the University of Maryland community together to discuss how we support and improve student learning. This conference provides an opportunity for the entire university instructional community, from teaching graduate assistants to distinguished university professors to learn from one another and to reflect on how we can improve student learning on campus.

TLTC Logo CIRTLCast-Teaching in the US: This workshop series from the University of Maryland and the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) is designed to bring international STEM students together to learn about higher education in the United States. The series will cover practical topics, like grading and how to communicate with students, in addition to longer discussions around the unique insights that international TAs bring to STEM classrooms. Sessions will take place on the second of every month from September through April; there will be no sessions in December and January. For more information, click here
